Ngomo, African sacred harps
“Ngomo” (or also “Ngombi”) is a traditional Bwiti musical instrument, played during Iboga ceremonies in Central-West Africa. I have undertaken numerous journeys to Gabon and Cameroon in pursuit of Iboga medicine and the Bwiti tradition.
I have undergone three Bwiti initiations there and am gradually learning to play these sacred harps. I am one of the few non-Africans who have mastered this instrument, and I have also learned how to craft them.
Each Ngomo harp is not only a beautiful work of art, as it always contains a small sculpture, usually of a woman, but also a unique musical instrument. In the Bwiti tradition, it is considered a spiritual bridge between the invisible and visible worlds.
If you would like to have your own Ngomo, I can create one for you (available on demand only) or bring one from Africa. Contact me.
